Movie List 2015: 101-130

You know that movie scene where someone has a huge blowout in front of an innocent third party and afterwards they go up to the kid/significant other/whoever and goes, “I’m so sorry you had to see that?” That’s kind of how I feel when looking over some the movies you are about to be exposed to.

But that’s life! And life isn’t always deep artistic pieces of soul-searching cinema. Sometimes life is movies about teenaged witches looking for love, people in murder cubes wishing they weren’t in murder cubes, and zombie-beaver-infected ladies trying to make out with non-zombie-beaver-infected ladies who are really wishing they wouldn’t.

In short: Life is a pretty weird place sometimes.

*   101   *

Super Troopers

2001

When their jobs are on the line a group of fun-loving state troopers have to do whatever they can to save their unit.

Starring: Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter, Marisa Coughlan, Brian Cox, Daniel von Baargen, Stever Lemme, Kevin Heffern, Erik Stolhanske

This movie...
is what happens when you take good comedy sketch ideas and try to sew together to make an OK(ish) movie.

“Ain’t so funny meow is it?”

102

Gåten Ragnarok
[Ragnarok]

2013

I don’t even remember. An archaeologist is investigating some nonsense in cave and awakens a monster? Something like that.

Starring: Pål Sverre Hagen, Nicolai Cleve Broch, Bjørn Sundquist

This movie...
is entirely forgettable. I remember so little of this movie that I thought I must have had fallen asleep through most of it and put it on the list accidentally. I checked with the old roommate I watched it with and they don’t recall if I fell asleep, but they remember about as much as I do, so I think it really was just that insubstantial.

103

Art and Craft

2014

A documentary about a man named Mark Landis whose forgeries of famous art are so good that he’s fooled some of the best museums in the world. Yet he’s never been prosecuted, because he never accepts any money for them.

Starring: Mark Landis

This movie...
is really enjoyable. I have a not-so-secret love for anything that points out that the world of “high art” is all utter BS.

“And the Sotheby’s label would’ve said, black chalk, brown - you know how they’ll say black chalk, brown wash, red chalk? I just used colored pencils, you know, ‘cause they can’t tell.”

104

Zombeavers

2014

A group of friends take a vacation to a cabin in the woods, but are attacked by a colony of zombie beavers.

Starring: Rachel Melvin, Cortney Palm, Lexi Atkins, Hutch Dano, Jake Weary, Peter Gilroy

This movie...
is like Black Sheep (2006), but not as well done. And yet considering it’s a movie about zombie beavers? Much more enjoyable than it has any right to be.

“We cannot turn against each other right now. That’s exactly what the beavers would want.”

105

Wet Hot American Summer

2001

A comedic spoof of summer camp / sex comedy movies.

Starring: Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Zak Orth, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni

This movie...
is so much better than I was expecting and I regret having avoided it for so long. I thought it was going to be an Animal House kind of thing, but it’s so much better than that. Not to mention that it’s chalk full of big name stars who hadn’t made it really big yet.

“Andy, have you seen my swimming buddy? If I can’t find him, I’m telling Beth that you let him drown.”

“I was busy!”

“It’s your job to make sure kids don’t drown!”

106

Life Partners

2014

Sasha and Paige are best friends who do everything together. But when Paige gets a serious boyfriend it threatens to destroy their friendship.

Starring: Leighton Meester, Gillian Jacobs, Adam Brody

This movie...
claims to be taking place in Minneapolis and yet keeps intersplicing itself with things from California as if I wouldn’t notice. But I did notice, Life Partners! And it was very distracting.

P.S. I love movies about best friends and I can relate a lot to this movie’s themes of what it’s like when your friends are all getting married and moving on.

“Guess I should’ve known that as soon as you found someone else to couple up with, that you’d be done with me.”

“Sasha, that is not fair. Okay yes, I am less available to you now than I was before when there was no one else in my life and we talked every night till 2 in the morning. But that was always gonna change when one of us met someone. I mean you don’t talk to your friends till 2 in the morning anymore, you stop needing that.”

“But you still have that.”

“What?”

“You... ah... you still talk to someone till 2 in the morning, it’s just him now. Nothing changed for you. It just changed for me. Can you acknowledge that, please?”

107

Airplane II:
The Sequel

1982

The gang from Airplane! is back, but this time they’re flying through OUTER SPACE!

Starring: Robert Hayes, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, Chad Everett, Peter Graves, Rip Torn

This movie...
isn’t as good as the original, but it’s still pretty fun.

“Ted, I have the strangest feeling we’ve been through this exact same thing before.”

*   108   *

Batoru Rowaiaru
[Battle Royale]

2000

In a dystopian near-future a group of high school students are randomly selected to enter a battle the death. The prize? Being the only person not murdered by their classmates.

Starring: Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Taro Yamada, Masanobu Ando, Kou Shibasaki, Takeshi Kitano

This movie...
is the kind of cult classic that could only come out of Japan. (but the book is still better)

“So today’s lesson is...you kill each other off until there’s only one left. Nothing’s against the rules!”

109

She’s All That

1999

A high school jock makes a bet that he can turn any girl in the school into prom queen. Enter class dweeb Laney Boggs.

Starring: Rachel Leigh Cook, Freddie Prinze Jr., Paul Walker, Elden Henson, Kieran Culkin, Dulé Hill, Anna Paquin, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe, Matthew Lillard

This movie...
is painfully 90s. While 10 Things I Hate About You was a 90s retelling of Taming of the Shrew that made you nostalgic for the decade, this retelling of Taming of the Shrew makes you so, so very glad that the 90s are over, because, good lord, what were we all thinking?

P.S. I already loved the show Psych, but I love it even more now that I’ve seen Dulé Hill and Rachel Leigh Cook in this.

“Is that a no?”

“That’s a hell no.”

110

Teen Witch

1989

A teenage girl discovers that she’s a witch! But it turns out that teenager + mastery over time&space = recipe for disaster.

Starring: Robyn Lively, Dan Gauthier, Zelda Rubinstein, Amanda Ingbar

This movie...
alternates between being so stupid it’s amazing and just plain stupid.

“Nobody’s comin’ to your sweet sixteen party Louise.”

*   111   *

Going Postal

2010

A con-artist is given one last shot to go straight when he’s saved from the gallows and put in charge of revitalizing the city’s dying post office. Turns out that con-artists and businessmen aren’t so different after all.

Starring: Richard Coyle, Claire Foy, David Suchet, Nicholas Farrell, Ian Bonar, Andrew Sachs, Charles Dance

This movie...
is technically a two-part mini-series, but this is my list and I’ll do what I want, goshdarnit! It’s a really interesting take on the book, with really phenomenal casting. It’s not without its problems, but very enjoyable to watch nevertheless.

“I’m just a con man!”

“You have killed 22.8 people.”

“I’ve never so much as drawn a sword.”

“You have stolen, embezzled, and swindled. You have ruined businesses and destroyed lives. When banks fail, it’s not bankers who starve. In a thousand small ways, you have hastened the deaths of many. You did not know them. You did not see them bleed. But you snatched bread from their mouths. There will be no running.”

112

Dokhtari Dar šab Tanhâ be Xâne Miravad
[A Girl Walks Alone at Night]

2014

A lonesome vampire stalks the denizens of a crime-riddled Iranian city.

Starring: Sheila Vane, Arash Marandi, Marshall Manesh, Dominic Rains, Mozhan Marnò, Rome Shandaloo

This movie...
has such gorgeous cinematography, but is severely lacking in the plot department.

“Where were you in the middle of the night?”

“I was with a girl.”

113

Nightbreed

1990

A man being framed for murder finds refuge with a tribe of monstrous people living under the cemetery.

Starring: Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, David Cronenberg

This movie...
has some interesting ideas at work in it, but for the most part is not very well done.

“Miss Winston, everybody has a secret face!”

114

An American Werewolf in London

1981

Two Americans backpacking through Europe have an unfortunate encounter with some of the local wildlife.

Starring: David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dune, John Woodvine

This movie...
has some good moments, but overall is pretty doofy. Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), but without the cohesive plot.

“A naked American man stole my balloons.”

*   115   *

The Dark Knight Rises

2012

Bruce Wayne is forced to don the cowl once more when Gotham is taken hostage by a terrorist who calls himself Bane. But how do you save a city that’s tearing itself apart?

Starring: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman

This movie...
is a satisfying conclusion to a fantastic trilogy...but Bane’s voice is still absolutely ridiculous.

“There’s a storm coming, Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you’re all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.”

116

Mad Max:
Fury Road

2015

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, fresh water is the ultimate commodity and is controlled by a tyrannical ruler called Immortan Joe. An unlikely team of an army deserter, a mentally ill drifter, and some escaped slaves try to escape Joe’s clutches and find salvation.

Starring: Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy

This movie...
is the best new movie I saw this year. And that’s coming from someone who doesn’t give any shits about cars.

“Hey. Whats your name? What do I call you?”

“Does it matter?”

“Fine. When I yell ‘fool,’ you drive out of here as fast as you can.”

117

Escape from New York

1981

In the future the entire island of Manhattan has been converted into a maximum security prison. But when Air Force One crash-lands onto the Island there’s only one man who can get him out: a former special-op turned criminal named Snake Plissken.

Starring: Kurt Russell, Donald Pleasance, Lee Van Cleef, Isaac Hayes

This movie...
is both better and worse than I was expecting it to be.

“You going to kill me, Snake?”

“I’m too tired. Maybe later.”

118

Push

2009

A telepathic little girl recruits a telekinetic vagabond in order to try and take down “Division:” a government agency that focuses on superhuman warfare.

Starring: Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, Camilla Bella

This movie...
has some interesting parts and some fun actors, but overall is kind of terrible.

“How are we going to make the future unpredictable?”

“By not knowing what we’re going to do, until right before we do it.”

119

Cube

1997

6 strangers wake up inside of a strange death-trap-filled cube. The only way to make it out alive?

Teamwork!

Starring: Nicole de Boer, Nicky Guadagni, David Hewlett, Andrew Miller, Wayne Robson, Maurice Dean Wint

This movie...
doesn’t even try to have its premise make any sense.

“Why put people in it?”

“Because it’s here. You have to use it, or you admit it’s pointless.”

“But it, it is pointless.”

“Quentin... that’s my point.”

120

Jurassic World

2015

Those stupid bastards build another dinosaur theme park and once again it does not go as planned.

Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, BD Wong, Vincent D’Onofrio

This movie...
would have been a lot better if it had had some decent female characters. And also if it focused more on the dangers-of-tampering-with-genetics angle a whole lot less on the angsty-teens-try-to-come-to-terms-with-divorce angle. Actually, just take the kids out of the movie entirely, use the time you just saved to add/develop some better female/POC characters. BAM! Problems solved.

“Nothing in Jurassic World is natural, we have always filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals. And if the genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different. But you didn’t ask for reality, you asked for more teeth.”

*   121   *

Blazing Saddles

1974

A satirical Western about a crooked governor who selects a black man to be a small town’s sheriff as a way to further his own nefarious agenda. But things don’t go as planned when the new sheriff turns out to be damn good at his job.

Starring: Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Mel Brooks, Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, Madeline Kahn

This movie...
is really weird to see, because it’s from the 70’s, yet still tackles American racism in a way that you never see these days (despite our claims of being more progressive).

“Well, Jim, since you are my guest and I am your host, what’s your pleasure? What do you like to do?”

“Oh, I don’t know. Play chess...screw...”

“Well, lets play chess.”

*   122   *

Captain America: Winter Soldier

2014

When S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised, Captain America is forced to break ties and go off the grid in order to stop them.

Starring: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Robert Redford

This movie...
is my second favorite superhero movie. It’s got adventure, it’s got action, it’s got a female main character who isn’t a love interest, it’s got laughs, it’s got more than just one POC, it’s got it all! And the combination of Chris Evans, Scarlett Johnasson, and Anthony Mackie is just so enjoyable.

“Did you do anything fun Saturday night?”

“Well, all the guys from my barbershop quartet are dead, so, no, not really.”

123

Friday

1995

Two friends spend a day getting high and trying to not get whacked by a drug dealer or the notorious local bully.

Starring: Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Nia Long, John Witherspoon, Anna Maria Horsford, Regina King, Paula Jai Parker, Tommy Lister

This movie...
isn’t something I can really say I relate to all that much, but is totally worth watching if only to see Ice Cube and Chris Tucker together.

“Mom, loan me 200 dollars.”

“Craig, I wouldnt feel comfortable lending you money without a job.”

“If I had a job, I wouldnt need to borrow any money.”

“Exactly.”

*   124   *

The Sixth Sense

1999

After after tragically failing to help a child who went on to commit suicide, a child psychologist tries make things right by helping a young boy who claims he can see dead people.

Starring: Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette

This movie...
is really well done, but makes you all the sadder when you know what Shyamalan went on to do. *shudder*

“You know the accident up there?”

“Yeah.”

“Someone got hurt.”

“They did?”

“A lady. She died.”

“Oh my god. What, can you see her?”

“Yes.”

“Where is she?”

“Standing next to my window.”

“Cole, you’re scaring me.”

“They scare me too sometimes.”

125

Inside Out

2015

The story of a young girl who’s life is falling apart as told from the 5 emotions (Joy, Disgust, Sadness, Anger, & Fear) that occupy her mind.

Starring: Kaitlyn Dias, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Richard Kind, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan

This movie...
is super cute, but very possibly might make you cry a little.

“I’m too sad to walk. Just give me a few...hours.”

*   126   *

They Live

1988

A man discovers a pair of sunglasses that let him see the world as it truly is behind the curtain of subliminal messages and illusions: a world being taken over by aliens! But now that he knows the truth how can he hope to stop them?

Starring: Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster

This movie...
is so lazy, but in a strange sort of way that makes it utterly brilliant.

“I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass.

And I’m all out of bubblegum.”

127

The Warriors

1979

When a New York City gang summit goes horribly wrong a gang called the Warriors is framed for a murder they didn’t commit. But with every gang in the city out to get them, they’re going to have to fight their way back home.

Starring: Michael Beck, James Remar, Dorsey Wright, Brian Tyler, David Harris, Terry Michos, Deborah Van Valkenburgh, David Patrick Kelly

This movie...
’s tone can pretty much be summed up in one scene: one of the Warriors takes a break from running for his life to try and get laid, but when the woman says she’s not interested he tries [and luckily fails] to force himself on her. WTF, The Warriors!?

“Shit! The chicks are packed! The chicks are packed!”

*   128   *

Take the Lead

2006

A dance instructor attempts to make a difference in the lives of inner-city kids by teaching them ballroom dancing during detention.

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Rob Brown, Dante Basco, Yaya Dacosta, Alfre Woodard

This movie...
has Dante Basco in it! Antonio Banderas is pretty enjoyable in it as well.

“What if I said these dances would make you look cool?”

“Id say youre full of shit.”

129

Mr. Holmes

2015

The famous detective Sherlock Holmes has gotten old and now resides in the countryside with a housekeeper and her son as he tries to do everything he can to escape his worsening dementia.

Starring: Ian McKellen, Laura Linney, Milo Parker

This movie...
has really great actors, but a plot that is nothing more than bad fan-fiction with no respect for the source material.

“It isn’t a bee, it’s a wasp. Different thing entirely.”

130

To Kill a Mocking Bird

1962

A young girl called Scout is thrust into a world of racial tension when her father (a lawyer) is chosen to defend a black man against a heinous charge in 1930s Alabama.

Starring: Mary Bradham, Phillip Alford, Gregory Peck, Estelle Evans, Robert Duvall

This movie...
has some of the best child acting I’ve ever seen.

“There’s a lot of ugly things in this world...”

2011

Afraid that she’s been too picky in love, a woman swears off sex until she can track down her exes to try and see if she might have been wrong about them.

Starring: Anna Faris, Chris Evans, Ari Graynor, Blythe Danner, Ed Begley Jr., Chris Pratt

This movie...
proves that I will watch pretty much anything if Chris Evans is in it.

“I was thinking maybe you’d want to be my date to my sister’s wedding?”

“Are your parents going to be there?”

“At my sister’s wedding?
...I think so.”

62.

The Skeleton Twins

2014

After attempting suicide a man has to stay with his estranged twin sister.

Starring: Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Luke Wilson, Ty Burrell

This movie...
needs to be seen if only so you can watch Kristen Wiig and Bill Haders amazing performances. Their twin chemistry is impossibly great.

“Have you read Marley and Me?”

“Yeah. Sad.”

“Why is it sad?”

“You don’t know what happens?”

“No, that’s why Im reading it.”

“Sorry.”

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“Does the dog die at the end?”

“No, I didn’t say that.”

"The fucking dog dies at the end.”

“I didn’t—I’m not saying anything.

“Look how much I had left!

*   63.   *

The Matrix

1999

A computer hacker named Neo discovers that the world as we know it is a lie known as The Matrix: a complex computer program designed to keep humanity compliant so the machines can use us for fuel.

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Ann Moss, Hugo Weaving

This movie...
was being shown at the local microcinema and I finally got to see it on the big screen!

“What is real? How do you define ‘real’? If youre talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then ‘real’ is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.”

64.

The Score

2001

An old con who is getting too old for this shit goes in for one last big heist. Unfortunately for him the young upstart hes working with has more ambition than skill.

Starring: Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, Marlon Brando, Angela Bassett

This movie...
isn’t going to blow your mind or anything, but it’s pretty entertaining if you can get past the parts where Edward Norton is pretending to be intellectually disabled.

“When was it you started thinking you were better than me?”

65.

The Apartment

1960

An office worker is surprised to find himself in a bad situation after he agrees to let his bosses use his apartment to have their affairs in.

Starring: Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, Fred MacMurray

This movie...
is not the comedy I was expecting. It’s dark! I was all set to laugh, but then you’ve got stalkers and suicide attempts all up in it!

“The mirror...it’s broken.”

“Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.”

66.

Zatouichi Monogatari
[The Tale of Zatoichi]

1962

A masseur finds himself in the middle of a gang war!

P.S. The masseur is also a master swordsman.

P.P.S. He is also blind!

Starring: Shintaro Katsu, Shigeru Amachi, Masayo Banri, Eijiro Yanagi, Ryuzo Shimada

This movie...
is a lot of fun. I recommend it for the next time you find yourself in the mood for some old-school B&W samurai fun.

“There’s a tug on your line.”

“...A small carp.”

“That was fast. At this rate there’ll be no fish left for me.”

“How did you know my bobber was moving if you can’t see?”

“I just sensed it.”

*   67.   *

The Neverending Story

1984

A young boy steals a magic book, but little does he know that the story hes reading is much more than just words on paper.

Starring: Barret Oliver, Noah Hathaway, Alan Oppenheimer, Tami Stronach

This movie...
only deals with the first half of the book and it is much better than the book because of it.

“Why is it so dark?”

“In the beginning, it is always dark.”

*   68. & 69.   *

Kill Bill: vol. 1 / Kill Bill: vol. 2

2003 / 2004

A deadly assasin wakes up from a coma four years after having survived an attack from her former squad on her wedding day. Now shes sworn to get revenge and will stop at nothing to kill them all.

Starring: Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Sonny Chiba, Gordon Liu

These movies...
are a must-see for any fan of martial arts/action movies. If nothing else the cast is pretty darn phenomenal.

“So, I suppose its a little late for an apology, huh?”

70.

Zoku Zatouichi Monogatari
[The Tale of Zatoichi Continues]

1962

Full-time masseur, part-time swordsman Zatoichi finds himself in a spot of deadly trouble when he accidentally learns a feudal lords secret.

Starring: Shintaro Katsu, Tomisaburo Wakayama, Yaeko Mizutani, Masayo Banri

This movie...
is not quite as good as a the first, but still a fun continuation of the storyline.

He must be Zatoichi.

No wonder he was so quick with the sword.

It was like lightning.

*   71.   *

Jack Reacher

2012

An ex-military hobo is called upon to try and prove the innocence of a sniper.

Starring: Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, Werner Herzog, Jai Courtney

This movie...
has everything you could want in an action movie, as long as what you want in an action movie doesnt involve more than one person of color and only 2 women.

“Look out the window. Tell me what you see. You see the same things that you see everyday. Well, imagine you’ve never seen it. Imagine you spent your whole life in other parts of the world, being told everyday that you’re defending freedom. Then you finally decide youve had enough. Time to see what you’ve given up your whole life for, everything. Get some of that ‘freedom’ for yourself. Look at the people. You tell me which ones are free. Free from debt. Anxiety. Stress. Fear. Failure. Indignity. Betrayal. How many wish that they were born knowing what they know now? Ask yourself how many would do things the same way over again, and how many would live their lives like me.”

72.

Let’s Be Cops

2014

Two loser friends discover the power that comes with pretending to be police officers and end up taking their act a little too far.

Starring: Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr., Rob Riggle, Nina Dobrev, Keegan-Michael Key

This movie...
is not a brilliant piece of cinema by any stretch of the imagination, but I was watching it purely to get to see silly situations wherein Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. pretend to be cops. And *spoiler alert* that totally happens!

“I feel like Danny Glover before he got too old for this shit.”

*   73.   *

Easy A

2010

A high schooler gets a reputation as a harlot, but manages to use it her to advantage and to help others. But trouble arises when her reputation gets out of her control.

Starring: Emma Stone, Amanda Bynes, Thomas Haden Church, Penn Badgley, Patricia Clarkson, Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci

This movie...
gets a C in plot, but an A in acting and banter.

“I hope for your sake, God has a sense of humor.

“Oh, I have sixteen years worth of anecdotal proof that he does.”

*   74.   *

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ellen Wong, Alison Pill, Mark Webber, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Jason Schwartzman, Mae Whitman, Chris Evans, Aubrey Plaza

This movie...
is quite a lot of fun, but when you’ve read the comic it’s hard not to spend a lot of the movie thinking about how much better the comic is.

“Hey Jimmy, do they rock or suck?”

“They haven’t started playing yet...”

“That was a test Jimmy, and you passed.”

Wild Target

2010

A professional hitman has a change of heart and tries to save his target.

Starring: Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Martin Freeman

This movie...
somehow manages to be mediocre even while having a fantastic cast.

“You killed him!”

“I had to. He was going to kill you.”

“Oh. Okay.”

76.

Man of Steel

An orphaned alien is raised by humans when his homeworld of Krypton is destroyed, but must come out of the shadows to defend his adopted home when it is threatened by Kryptonian fiends.

Starring: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe

This movie...
is actually quite good at times. At other times? Kiiinda ridiculous. One might even say...Super ridiculous.

“People are afraid of what they don’t understand.”

77.

They Came Together

2014

Basically an ironic version of Youve Got Mail.

Starring: Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Ellie Kemper

This movie...
is supposed to be a satire, but it lacks any of the subtlety that great satire has. It’s really just a rom-com wherein everybody makes a big point of constantly announcing every cliche they’re currently using and it makes the whole thing kind of insufferable.

“Your story really is like a corny movie.”

“I know! The only difference is it’s not a movie, it
s our real life...”

2004

Nicholas Cage goes around stealing historical artifacts and trying to prove that his family of historical conspiracy theorists werent all crazed psychos.

Starring: Nicholas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Sean Bean, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel

This movie...
is a movie about history, but cant go 5 minutes without a glaring historical faux pas.

“What led you to assume there’s this invisible map?”

“We found an engraving on the stem of a 200-year-old pipe.”

“Owned by the Free Masons.”

“May I see the pipe?”

“We don’t actually have it.”

“Did Bigfoot take it?”

Starring: Olivia Williams, Matthew Modine, Antonia Clark, Adam Thomas Wright

This movie...
is kind of reminiscent of The Shining, but, like, a kind of shitty The Shining.

“We’re going to enjoy ourselves, aren’t we?”

80.

This movie...
is so freakin’ good! I love it.

“So, are you happy to proceed with the story that, Mr. McRandall was attacked by a ‘vengeful ghost?’”

“...Yes.”

“Righto.”

Starring: Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer, Andy Serkis

This movie...
is a guilty pleasure of mine. Its just so darn cute!

After her father is murdered, 14-year-old Mattie Ross hires a notorious alcoholic marshall to escort her into the wilds and after the criminal.

Starring: John Wayne, Kim Darby, Glen Campbell, Robert Duvall, Jeff Corey

This movie...
is actually pretty fun. It’s not up to par with the 2010 Coen Brothers’ version, but it’s still a heck of a lot more entertaining than the book was.

“I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker’s convenience. Which’ll it be?”

“I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.”

“Fill your hand, you son of a bitch!”

An Extremely Goofy Movie

2000

Goofy’s son Max goes to college and after getting fired from his job Goofy decides to go too!

Starring: Bill Farmer, Jason Marsden, Jim Cummings, Rob Paulsen, Pauly Shore, Jeff Bennett, Bebe Neuwirth, Vicki Lewis

This movie...
isn’t as good as the original, but it certainly does have its moments.

“P.J., isn’t ten hot dogs enough?”

84.

Rosemary’s Baby

1968

A woman gets pregnant and then finds herself surrounded by creepy-ass people acting super shady.

Starring: Mai Farrow, John Cassavates, Ruth Gordon, Sidney Blackmer, Maurice Evans, Ralph Bellamy

This movie...
is so. Friggin’. BORING! And when its not being boring its kind of fucked up. And not in a Spooky Horror-kind of way, but in a “What the hell is wrong with you, society in the 60s!?”-kind of way. There’s an honest to goodness part where the husband nonchalantly rapes his unconscious wife and they just play it off like it’s no big thing.

“You...you had me while I was out?”

“It was kind of fun in a necrophile kind of way.”

85.

Starring: Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Samuel L. Jackson

This movie...
definitely isn’t up to par with the South Korean version. And yet not nearly as bad as I was expecting.

“Hello? Hello?! Tell me why I’m in here. Look at me. No, no, no, no!”

86.

The Book of Life

2014

Starring: Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum, Ron Perlman, Kate del Castillo

This movie...
is not only a movie focusing on Mexican culture, but was also directed/co-written by a Mexican, AND they refrained from white-washing the voice acting! Now if only other movies would take the hint and start showcasing some friggin’ diversity already.

“All of these families have lost someone, but as long as we remember them, we can feel their presence with us for one night each year.”

87.

This movie...
is one of those movies that everyone uses compares things to, but that cannot be compared with anything else.

“As expected, I can’t get along with anyone today either.”

88.

9 to 5

1980

3 female office workers join forces in order to teach their misogynistic boss a lesson.

Starring: Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, Dabney Coleman

This movie...
is a female-lead buddy comedy from the 80s that deals with sexism in the workplace. Kind of makes you wonder if Hollywood has actually gotten less progressive over the years, dont you think?

“...this is the last straw! Look, I’ve got a gun out there in my purse. Up until now Ive been forgivin and forgettin because of the way I was brought up, but Ill tell you one thing. If you ever say another word about me or make another indecent proposal, Im gonna get that gun of mine, and Im gonna change you from a rooster to a hen with one shot! And dont think I cant do it.”

Starring: Arnold Scwarzenegger, Danny Devito, Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb

This movie...
is no Junior, but it’s still pretty fun.

“This must...uh be where you made the milkshake.”

“We werent making milkshakes. We were making the most fully developed human the world has ever seen.”

“But instead of just one perfect kid, Mom had the two of us. Way to go, Mom.”

“Wrong. The embryo did split in two, but it didnt split equally. All the purity and strength went into Julius. All the crap that was left over went into what you see in the mirror every morning.”

“Wow, wow, wow...youre telling me that Im crap?”

Starring: Robert Duvall, Billy Murray, Sissy Spacek, Lucas Black, Bill Cobbs

This movie...
wasn’t as good as I was hoping it would be.

“Mr. Bush, you can’t buy forgiveness. It’s free. But you do have to ask for it.”

93.

1993

A woman’s heart is touched when she hears a man’s story on the radio and proceeds to essentially stalk him.

Starring: Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Ross Malinger, Bill Pullman, Rosie ODonnell, David Hyde Pierce

This movie...
is really fucked up! I cannot accurately put into words how creepy this movie is. It is far too messed up to even begin being romantic.

“Your destiny can be your doom.”

2011

A beloved funeral director tries to befriend a cruel and cranky old woman, but ends up murdering her...by accident?

Starring: Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey

This movie...
is really rather unusual.

“Well, trials are generally moved when the judge determines that the defendant can’t get a fair trial locally. And thats usually because the crime is so egregious and so well-known that everybody in the community has already convicted the poor soon of a bitch accused of it. But in all the years Ive been doing this for a living, I have never heard of the State seeking a change of venue because the defendant was so well-liked that they couldnt get a conviction.”

This movie...
wasnt phenomenal or anything, but I cant say I wasnt thoroughly entertained. I think its definitely worth watching if youre a Kirsten Wiig fan.

“Mrs. Duncan, would you be willing to assume responsibility for your daughter?”

“Well, I have to be somewhere later.”

“The best thing for your daughter would be to be in the care of a loved one.”

“She said she loved me?”

“No, but we have more critical patients who need her bed.”

99.

I am Big Bird:
The Carroll Spinney Story

2015

A documentary about the life of the puppeteer who plays Big Bird.

Starring: Carol Spinney

This movie...
is a really sweet documentary. And quite interesting. I never knew that Carroll Spinney played both Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch! Also, the mechanics behind that Big Bird costume? Insane.

“Big bird (and Oscar) are two of the most famous characters on planet Earth, yet Carroll, people don’t know who he is.”
